Parents are responsible for the condition of their children at birth. When parents bear the fruit of righteousness, meditating on the law of God day and night, God wants them to bequeath it to a blessed lineage. Elizabeth proclaimed that Mary was such a mother when she said, “blessed is the fruit of your womb.” Mary had fulfilled what Moses decreed: “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, … the fruit of your womb will be blessed.”

When parents bear the fruit of righteousness, God wants them to bequeath it.

If Adam and Eve had obeyed God’s command, the fruit of Eve’s womb would have been blessed. Their children would have been purely begotten children of God. Their lineage would have been the lineage of God.

But Moses also decreed that if you disobey God’s commands “the fruit of your womb will be cursed.” God’s blessing of Eve’s womb turned into a curse when she and Adam disobeyed God’s command. God cursed her childbearing and her relationship with her husband. They gave birth to misbegotten children, who in turn gave birth to more misbegotten children. David called himself sinful from the time his mother conceived him. “The thoughts of their hearts were only evil all the time.” Jesus and John the Baptist called the people a “brood of vipers.”

Since the Fall took place in the arena of procreation, it needs to be restored in the arena of procreation.

God created a wedge to break into this vicious cycle. Since the Fall was the failure of parents, parents need to restore it. Since the Fall was in the arena of procreation, it needs to be restored in the arena of procreation. God’s wedge into history is parents who set the conditions to bring forth purely begotten children. The purely begotten Son and Daughter who, with those around them, fulfill their responsibility, will grow into True Parents.

The love of Jesus and the Holy Spirit is the model for True Parents. We’ll talk about that on Friday.
