There is one absolutely world-transforming virtue of parents: parents want their children to surpass them. Parents’ desire is that their children grow up to be better than they are: smarter, more attractive, more loving, more successful and, most of all, happier.

Parents are never jealous of their child’s surpassing them. As the Bible says, “The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him.” Jesus said, “anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these.” This means that true parental love ends jealousy and envy.
Let’s imagine that nations, races and religions were to adopt true parental heart and have “great joy” when other nations, races and religions surpass them. Most assuredly, the world would be at peace. When nations and all people compete to see who can serve most effectively and give most effectively, the world will be at peace.
The word “true” distinguishes true parental heart from the immature parental heart that gives out of its abundance. The true parental heart gives, gives, forgets that it has given, and gives until there is nothing left. The world has wealthy but immature religions, races and nations. God bless their giving, it is the world’s hope, but it is time to take another step forward. A true family is not a welfare bureaucracy. Children are not charity cases.
Personal, familial and absolute giving generates true freedom, because absolute giving leads the giver to greater blessing and happiness. Sociological research finds that growing up with two parents makes happy children, mutual generosity makes a happy marriage, and that offering time, talents and treasure in service to others makes a happy person. How about making a happy nation?
True Parents have created the model; they have shown that it can be done.
Our True Parents, True Father Sun Myung Moon and True Mother Hak Ja Han Moon, have generated a model of sacrifice that changes the hearts of all races, religions and nations. They have created the model; they have shown that it can be done. Giving everything for God and others, with absolute faith, love and obedience, lifted True Father Moon from a cardboard hut to a Peace Palace.
More than a testament to him and True Mother, this is a testament to True Parents’ love, given freely unto us, that we might follow their path, True Parents’ way.
